The Elder Cottage Hospital is a former hospital in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. The nurses' dormitory opposite is independently classified as a Category B building.

history

The Elder Cottage Hospital was built as a hospital between 1901 and 1903. The Scottish architect John James Burnet provided the design . The nurses' home was built at the same time. The hospital was closed in 1987.

description

The two-story building is on Langlands Road across from Elder Park in south Glasgow. It is designed in the style of the late English Neo-Renaissance . The main facade along Drumoyne Drive is eight axes wide, arranged in the scheme 2–4–2. The corner stones of the corner projections are rusticated . The central main portal is designed with a striking, curved canopy on pillars and consoles . Above the portal is a detailed ornamented cartouche with a monogram. A sculptured plate adorns the facade above the canopy. The twin windows on the ground floor of the risalits are set into flat, segmental arches. Above the widely projecting cornice occur gabled roof dormers out. The final roof is covered with slate.
