Electrofor polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Electrofor-Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 297). The work was performed for the first time on February 14, 1865 in the Dianabad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was composed for the carnival ball in 1865 for engineering students at the University of Vienna and was premiered at this event. Strauss often chose the title names of his works from the range of organizations for which the composition was originally written. Here he chose electricity as part of the engineering students at the time. Johann Strauss and his brothers Josef and Eduard also dedicated themselves to this topic in several other compositions. The Electrofor polka was well received, both in Vienna and in Russia, where the composer in the summer of 1865 traveled again.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 22 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
