Michael Wecklein (born October 21, 1778 in Bergrheinfeld , † October 31, 1849 in Aachen ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian , clergyman and university professor .

Life

Wecklein studied philosophy and theology at the University of Würzburg from 1797 . 1801 was carried ordination in Würzburg, and he was in the same year with the dissertation Tentamen historico-criticum about diversas de insigni loco Isaiae LII, 13, LIII, 12 sententias to Dr. theol. PhD . In 1801 he was a chaplain in Ettleben , in 1802 a cooperator in Estenfeld , and in 1803 a chaplain in Gerolzhofen . From 1802 he published regularly in the magazine New Magazine for Preachers by Bonaventura Andres .

On Franz Oberthür's recommendation, Wecklein was appointed Professor of Exegesis and Oriental Languages ​​at the University of Münster in 1805 by Ferdinand August von Spiegel . On June 13, 1815 he was transferred to the philosophy faculty. There he received the teaching assignment for history and education. After the closure of the university in 1818 was as librarian of the University of Bonn added. He stayed at the Bonn University Library for about ten years.

Wecklein was appointed canon at the Collegiate Foundation in Aachen by Spiegler in 1828 . He stayed there until his death.
