Elektric Music

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Elektric Music was a project by the former Kraftwerk musician Karl Bartos and the Rheingold musician Lothar Manteuffel .

Band history

Bartos and Manteuffel already knew each other during their membership in their respective former bands. After Bartos left Kraftwerk while working on The Mix , there was a musical collaboration for the first time. In 1993 the only album Esperanto was released with the singles Crosstalk , TV and Lifestyle . The title Kissing the Machine was created in collaboration with Andy McCluskey from OMD , who also took over the vocals. The singer of the other tracks was Manteuffel, Bartos only contributed his voice in alienated samples. Album and singles that were clearly based on the sound of Kraftwerk, however, were not granted any notable success.

The following year the two of them diverged, Manteuffel appeared without Bartos under the band name in the WDR broadcast Wednesday Live with a new title called State of the Art , which musically and stylistically did not have much in common with the previously published titles. Meanwhile, Bartos went to the UK to work with Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr on their album, Electronic , Raise the Pressure .

Manteuffel and Bartos have not performed as Elektric Music since then , neither together nor alone. While Manteuffel returned to Rheingold, Bartos released an album under the new name Electric Music .
