An electrical operating room is a locked room or operating area in which electrical power engineering systems are housed and which, as a rule , may only be entered by specific and trained persons such as qualified electricians for safety reasons . In addition to closed rooms, this also includes open and fenced areas such as outdoor switchgear .

Under certain conditions, special safety requirements are placed on these officially designated operating rooms for electrical systems . For this purpose, the responsible federal states each issue an ordinance on the construction of operating rooms for electrical systems (EltBauV) . The main requirements relate to preventive fire protection .
