Electric low-floor bus

As electric low-floor buses , including e-package cars or e-Parcel vehicles often only ENO were equipped with electric drive delivery vehicles of the Austrian postal and telegraph administration designated.

After decades of experience with electrically powered vehicles, the Austrian Post and Telegraph Administration procured a total of 160 electric parcel vehicles between 1950 and 1955 and referred to them as electric low-floor buses (ENO). Manufacturers were Dostal and the Austrian Automobile Factory (ÖAF) .

Two variants were procured, 135 pieces of the smaller 2 ENO and 25 larger 5 ENO , with different technical data, but very similar appearance.

Reasons to procure new electric vehicles were u. a. in the low operating noise and in the presence of existing charging stations. When designing the low-floor vehicle, particular attention was paid to the ergonomics of the parcel delivery service.

The ENO vehicles were used in Vienna , Graz , Linz , Salzburg , Klagenfurt , Villach and Innsbruck until the end in 1981. The task of the smaller 2 ENO was to deliver parcels. The larger 5 ENOs were used in Vienna for transports between train stations and post offices or between post offices. The 5 ENO were also used as a towing vehicle for parcel trailers.

In Vienna, the ENO vehicles in the post-electric garage in a former riding school were the former Military Riding Teacher Institutes in his left Bahngasse remisiert . There was also a corresponding maintenance and charging infrastructure there .

Whereabouts

A restored copy is on display in the Historama technology museum of the nostalgic railways in Carinthia .
