The Elephant Butte Reservoir is a reservoir on the Rio Grande in New Mexico (United States). It is northeast of the city of Truth or Consequences . The village of Elephant Butte is located on the dam .
The dam was built from 1911 and the lake was filled in 1915/16.
In 2011 the lake and the surrounding area were searched for the remains of victims of the killer David Parker Ray .
