The Elephant Cove ( English for elephant bay ) is a small, round bay on the south coast of South Georgia near the western end of the island. It is located 800 m north of Klutschak Point .
The naming of the bay as Elephant Bay probably goes back to seal hunters who were stationed in South Georgia. It also appears in this form on map material that was created during the South Georgia expedition (1928–1929) of the German explorer Ludwig Kohl-Larsen , or on such material from the British Discovery Investigations during the same period. The renaming took place in order to do justice to the small size of the bay.
