Elven oak
The Elven Oak is a 900 year old tree stump in Kensington Gardens , London that has been carved and painted to look like elves , gnomes and small animals live in its bark.
The hollow log originally came from Richmond Park . He was transferred to Kensington Gardens in London in 1928 as part of a George Lansbury project for public improvements. Over the next two years, the illustrator Ivor Innes carved the figures of the "Little People" into it. These included the witch Wookey , with her three jugs for health, prosperity, and good fortune, the gnome Huckleberry , who brings a sack of berries up the stairs to the banquet in the Bark Hall , and the elves Grumples and Groodles , those of Brownie , Dinkie , Rumplelocks, and Hereandthere be encouraged to steal eggs from the crow's nest.
The inner cover of the Pink Floyd album Ummagumma from 1969 shows a picture of David Gilmour in front of the elven oak.
Comedian Spike Milligan was a lifetime fan of the oak. In 1996 he led a campaign to restore it. In 1997, she explained the Minister of Heritage Tony Banks for listed Grade II structure .
