Elfriede Sauerwein-Braksiek (* 1959 in Trier ) is a German civil engineer and road construction manager. She has been the director of the Westphalia branch of Autobahn GmbH of the federal government since April 1, 2020 .

Career

Sauerwein-Braksiek was born in Trier in 1959 and studied civil engineering from 1979 to 1985 with a focus on structural engineering at RWTH Aachen University . After completing her diploma, she completed a legal clerkship at the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) from 1986 to 1988 .

After four years as a road safety advisor in the main administration of the LWL in Münster, Sauerwein-Braksiek moved to the new road construction department in Recklinghausen as head of the construction department . In 1997 she took over the management of the operations and traffic department at what was then the Westphalian Road Construction Office in Bochum.

She accompanied the State Office for Road Construction NRW, founded in 2001, professionally from the start: initially as head of the planning department and deputy branch manager, from 2013 as department head for individual planning at the company's headquarters in Gelsenkirchen. Elfriede Sauerwein-Braksiek has been director of the state operations since 2015. Your work in this position was considered successful; under her leadership, the company achieved “record sales” of 1.25 billion euros (2017). At the end of 2019, it was announced that she would be moving as director of the Westphalian branch of the federal autobahn GmbH in Hamm in spring 2020 . He started work on April 1, 2020.

Since 2016, Sauerwein-Braksiek has also been chairwoman of the Research Association for Roads and Transport .

Elfriede Sauerwein-Braksiek has lived in Recklinghausen since 1986.
