Eli Broad

Eli Broad (born June 6, 1933 in Detroit , Michigan , USA ) is an American billionaire .

Broad is considered a philanthropist and is known for his art collection with nearly 2,000 works of modern and contemporary art. He founded the Broad Art Foundation and donated the Broad Contemporary Art Museum and The Broad art museum , which opened in 2015 .

He has been a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2001 .

Since 2010, another museum - the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum - has been planned at Michigan State University in Lansing , Michigan by the architect Zaha Hadid , which will accommodate the university's collection with works from antiquity and temporary exhibitions. The museum has been open to the public since 2012.

Broad currently ranks 42nd on Forbes' list of America's richest people. He earned his private fortune, valued at four to six billion US dollars, in building houses and insurance.
