The Broad is a private museum for contemporary art at the Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles . It is named after the billionaire Eli Broad and his wife Edythe, who mainly financed the $ 140 million building for the presentation of their art collection of around 2,000 works. The two-story building in the immediate vicinity of the Walt Disney Concert Hall , designed by the New York architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro and in collaboration with Gensler Architects from San Francisco , covers almost 12,000 square meters, including almost 5,000 square meters of exhibition space, as well as the lending library of the Broad Art Foundation and was opened on September 20, 2015. Entry to the permanent exhibition is free. The founding director of the museum is Joanne Heyler. The museum has one of the largest budgets of any Los Angeles museum , surpassed only by the Getty Museum (as of 2014).
