The Elias Church , ( Ukrainian Іллінська церква / Genealogieska zerkwa ) is an Orthodox church building of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate and a national architectural monument in the Ukrainian capital Kiev .

history

The Elias Church, built in 1692 near the Dneprufer in the Kiev district of Podil , stands, according to the Nestor Chronicle , in place of the first church of the Kievan Rus , a wooden church whose history dates back to 945. The church, named after the prophet Elijah , was rebuilt in the Ukrainian Baroque style after a fire in 1718 and received the portico and a chapel after the great fire in Podil in 1811 .
