Elias John Wilkinson Gibb (born June 3, 1857 in Glasgow , † December 5, 1901 ) was a Scottish orientalist . He devoted his life to researching Turkish, Persian and Arab history, literature, philosophy and religion. His particular interest was the seal of the Ottomans , only the first volume of his six-volume History of Ottoman Poetry ( "History of Ottoman Poetry") was published in his lifetime, the subsequent volumes were Edward G. Browne out.

An Elias John Wilkinson Gibb Memorial Series was published in his honor .
