Elisabeth Alter (born October 10, 1953 in Weinböhla ) is a German politician ( SPD ). Between 2004 and 2019 she was a member of the state parliament of Brandenburg .

Life and work

Elisabeth Alter was born into an extended family as the ninth child. After training as a nurse at the medical college in Dresden (1970 to 1973), she worked as a nurse in the Meißen district hospital and in the senior citizens' home for 8 years . In 1981 she qualified as a ward nurse and went to the district rehabilitation center for people with mental disabilities in Meißen-Proschwitz as an educator, where she became the head of early intervention in Meißen in 1984.

After the reunification she moved to Fürstenwalde and from 1990 to 2004 was the representative for senior citizens and people with disabilities in the Oder-Spree district , whose department was expanded in 2002 to include responsibility for foreign citizens and questions of equality.

Elisabeth Alter lives married in Fürstenwalde / Spree in a blended family with four children, five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Political commitment

Elisabeth Alter has been a member of the SPD since 1993. Since October 2003 is city ​​councilor and deputy chairman of the city ​​council assembly Fürstenwalde / Spree. On site she is involved in many clubs and associations and is a member of the board of the Fürstenwalde business development association. The AK Network School-Business was founded on her initiative. She is also co-founder of the local network for families in Fürstenwalde.

In the state elections in October 2004 , she was clearly defeated by the PDS candidate in the Oder-Spree III constituency (27.8%) and entered the Brandenburg state parliament via the SPD's state list (14th place). During the 4th legislative period (2004–2009) she was a full member of the Committee for European Affairs and Development Policy and a brief member and deputy chairperson of the Petitions Committee (2004–2005).

In the state elections on September 27, 2009, she was defeated by 30.4% by only 0.2% to Peer Jürgens (Die Linke) in the fight for the direct mandate and returned to the state parliament with 21st place on the state list of the SPD Brandenburg. In the 5th legislative period (since 2009) she was deputy chairwoman of the Committee on Infrastructure and Agriculture. Furthermore, she was spokeswoman for family policy and represents the interests of the Brandenburg SPD in the SPD Federal Council.

In the state elections on September 14, 2014 , she was directly elected in the Oder-Spree III state electoral district.

Since 2008 she has also represented the SPD in the Oder-Spree district council .
