Peer Juergens (born July 2, 1980 in East Berlin ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). From 2004 to 2014 he was a member of the Brandenburg state parliament .

Life and work

Peer Jürgens was born in Berlin-Köpenick . In 2000 he graduated from school in Erkner with the Abitur . He then did his community service at the Israelite synagogue community "Adass Yisroel" in Berlin.

From October 2001 to January 2011, Jürgens studied political science and Jewish studies at the University of Potsdam .

Political party

In 2002 he became a member of the PDS . Jürgens was chairman of the Oder-Spree district association of the party Die Linke and co-initiator of the Brandenburg state association of the inner-party trend Forum Democratic Socialism .

MP

In the state elections on September 19, 2004, Peer Jürgens entered the Brandenburg state parliament via the state list. He was university policy spokesman for Die Linke parliamentary group and a member of the committee for science, research and culture. Since 2010 he has also been a member of the study commission "Dealing with the history and dealing with the consequences of the SED dictatorship and the transition to a democratic constitutional state in the state of Brandenburg". In 2009 , Jürgens was able to return to the state parliament through his direct mandate in the Oder-Spree III state electoral district . Jürgens had also been a city councilor in Erkner since 1998, but left the city council after moving. Since 2008 he has been a member of the Oder-Spree district council. After the state elections in Brandenburg in 2014 , he left the state parliament.

On October 18, 2016, a criminal case against Jürgens began before the Potsdam District Court. The public prosecutor's office accuses him of fraud and election fraud because he illegally obtained almost EUR 87,000 in travel expenses and rent subsidies from the state parliament with false information about his domicile, as well as eligibility for the district council of Oder-Spree. On February 13, 2017, P. Jürgens was sentenced to 1 year and 2 months on probation by the Berlin Regional Court for serious fraud. The subsequent termination, also as an employee of the parliamentary group, is legal according to a court ruling.
