In the 2005 municipal council elections, Märk topped the list of the SPÖ Hohenems and, after being elected city councilor, took over the areas of environment, integration and town twinning. After the SPÖ had to accept a loss of more than 3 percent of the votes in the municipal council elections in 2010 , the SPÖ lost its right to a seat in the city council and Märk subsequently led the 3-person SPÖ parliamentary group in the Hohenems city council.
