Ilona Graenitz

Ilona Graenitz (born March 15, 1943 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Graenitz was a member of the Austrian National Council from 1986 to 1996 and a member of the European Parliament from 1995 to 1999 .

Life

Graenitz attended a secondary school in Vienna after primary school, where she graduated in 1961 . She then studied at the University of World Trade and graduated in 1965 with the academic degree Dipl.-Kfm. from. In 1969 she acquired the qualification for language teaching in compulsory schools. Graenitz worked professionally between 1966 and 1968 in the export department of the chemical industry in Linz , before switching to the Linz Polytechnic as a specialist teacher from 1968 to 1972. Then she started her own business as an adult educator.

Politically, Graenitz was initially involved in urban politics and was a councilor in Linz between 1979 and 1986. She moved to the National Council on February 17, 1986, to which she was a member until September 10, 1995 and January 15, 1996. When Austria joined the European Union, she also became a member of the European Parliament from January 1, 1995, in which she represented the SPÖ until July 20, 1999. In addition, Graenitz was active within the party as a member of the district committee of the SPÖ Linz-Stadt and a member of the state committee of the SPÖ Upper Austria. She was also a member of the Austrian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from 1991 to 1994.
