Catholic branch church St. Elisabeth in Oberzeiring

The Roman Catholic branch church of St. Elisabeth stands on a hill at the eastern exit of Oberzeiring in Styria in the Murtal district in Austria . The branch church of the Oberzeiring parish , consecrated to St. Elisabeth , belongs to the Judenburg dean's office in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The essentially Romanesque church is a listed building .

history

The beginnings of the early Gothic branch church St. Elisabeth go back to the 12th century. This is supported by the Romanesque style elements of the building, such as the narrow south windows. The frequently cited consecration date in "1111", however, goes back to an incorrectly read inscription.

The Gothic choir was added later and the originally flat-roofed church interior was vaulted in 1832. The walls of the nave were frescoed in the middle of the 14th century. These were painted over until 1955/1956 and were only exposed later. The frescoes also contain representations of tools used in mining.

Furnishing

In addition to the high altar, which dates from the 18th century, there is one dedicated to St. Side altar consecrated to Anthony and the remains of a pulpit from around 1700 with pictures of the four evangelists. During restoration work in 1981, a stone with Roman motifs, probably a hunting scene, was uncovered on the outside.
