Elisenda Fábregas

Elisenda Fábregas (* 1955 in Terrassa / Province of Barcelona ) is a Spanish pianist and composer .

Life

Elisenda Fábregas studied piano at the Barcelona Conservatory until 1978. In 1978 she came to the Juilliard School of Music on a Fulbright Scholarship , where Beveridge Webster , Joseff Raieff and Samuel Sanders were among her teachers. After graduating in 1983, she completed a PhD at Columbia University Teachers College . Her first compositions were written in 1985 for the choreographers Jerome Robbins , Hector Zaraspe , Janet Soares and Anna Sokolow . In 1986, she commissioned the Spanish Dance Company of Maria Benitez with the composition of the piece Reflexiones that the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts premiered in Washington and then at the Joyce Theater in New York and other houses in the US, Canada and Europe was played.

Fábregas u. a. from the Orchestra of Santa Fe , the Dale Warland Singers , the Texas Music Teachers Association and numerous chamber music ensembles and soloists. She composed Mirage for the Andrew Gurwitz Memorial Commission , which was honored as best commissioned work by Roger Wright when it was performed at the 1997 San Antonio International Competition . The 1998 San Antonio International Piano Competition gold medal winner , Mi-Jung Im, played the piece in New York's Mercin Hall . At the 2001 Music Teachers National Association Convention in Washington , she received the Shepherd Distinguished Composer of the Year Award for the piano work Portraits I , which was played by Roger Wright at the award ceremony.

Fábregas has performed as a pianist in Spain, England, Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan and the USA. She gave concerts a. a. in Alice Tully Hall , Merkin Concert Hall , Carnegie Hall , Joyce Theater in New York, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, Place Theater in London , Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona and Manuel de Falla International Festival in Granada.
