Elke Backes (born September 6, 1967 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German art historian, art blogger and art journalist.

Life

After an apprenticeship as a bank clerk, Backes initially continued her parents' funeral home in the third generation before she decided to study. The bachelor's degree in communication design at the Academy for Communication Design in Cologne was followed by a master's degree in art history at the Institute for Art History at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf , where she received her doctorate in 2019 with her architectural history research on Dominikus Böhm . Backes was in his second marriage to the Mönchengladbach lawyer Dr. Peter Backes († 2017) married and has two children from his first marriage.

Art blog

In 2016 Backes founded the art blog atelierbesuche.com. As the sole author, she has since published her personal reports from various art studios around the world. She visits artists of different genres. In the menu item Editorial you can find journalistic articles in which protagonists of the art market are presented from various perspectives.
