Elke Oertgen-Twiehaus

Elke Oertgen-Twiehaus (born January 18, 1936 in Koblenz , † February 22, 2012 in Duisburg ) was a German writer and poet.

Life

She grew up in the chaos of the Second World War in various areas of the then German Empire and the later FRG. This period also shaped some of her later poems and short stories. She studied literature, history and art history (teacher training) in Freiburg and Bonn, married in 1963 and has lived in Duisburg ever since.

In the period from 1963 to 1966 she completed her legal clerkship at Essen girls' grammar schools in the subjects of German and history. Since 1975 she has taught various literature courses at the adult education centers in Duisburg and Hamm.

Activity as a writer and poet

She wrote a variety of poems as well as a few short stories. Her poems and stories often deal with travel experiences, nature observation, art as well as war and the Third World.

Awards

In 1992 she received a work grant from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1995 she received the award of the writers' association “Die Kogge” in Minden.
