Elliniko Metopo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Elliniko Metopo ( Greek Ελληνικό Μέτωπο Ellinikó Métopo Greek Front ) was a right-wing extremist Greek party founded in 1994 . In essence, it was an attempt to unite the younger members of the then disbanded nationalist parties EPEN (Ethniki Politiki Enosis, ie National Political Union) and ENEK (Eniaio Ethnikistiko Kinima, ie United Nationalist Movement). Through its chairman Makis Voridis , the Greek Front had good contacts with the French National Front .

On May 15, 2005, the Central Committee of the Greek Front announced the cessation of political party activities. The background for this was the desire of the party members for closer cooperation with the Orthodox People's Meeting (LA.OS) . With a consistently below 0.1% of the vote in the elections, the party was insignificant, but it had often attracted public attention with impressive posters against illegal immigrants. Its chairman Makis Voridis was a frequent media visitor. The last case that became public was a meeting of supporters of the Greek front with members of the Ouranio Toxo party in Edessa , after which the conference of the Ouranio Toxo party was canceled.

During its 10 year history, the Greek Front has established a monthly newspaper, the "Ellinikes Grammes" (Greek Lines). After the party's political activities ceased, the newspaper evolved into a web newspaper that continues to exist and represents the nationalist wing of LAOS.
