Elliot Valenstein

Elliot Spiro Valenstein (born December 9, 1923 in New York City ) is an American neurobiologist who did research at the University of Michigan . In his books on the history of brain research he takes a critical look at the biologically oriented concepts of mental illness. In "Blaming the Brain" he shows the major weaknesses of the neurotransmitter theories on depression and schizophrenia .

In the book "The War of the Soups and the Sparks", Valenstein describes the history of synapses research.

In his book Brain Control from 1973, he criticized research trends at the time to treat psychiatric diseases with implanted electrodes ( José Manuel Rodríguez Delgado and others).
