Elliott Rock

The Elliott rock is a Rifffelsen before the western end of South Georgia . In Stewart Strait , it is immediately west of Bird Island .

Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations under the direction of Lieutenant Commander John M. Chaplin (1888–1977) mapped it between 1926 and 1930. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1957 after the American naturalist Henry W. Elliott ( 1846–1930), a pioneer in the study of ear seals in the North Pacific , who was also committed to protecting them.
