Elmar Zorn (* 1945 in Hof (Saale) ) is a German art consultant, exhibition curator and publicist.

Life

Zorn studied art, literature and theater studies in Munich. During his doctoral scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation for Rome, he did his doctorate on the subject of "Karl Wolfskehl in Exile" as a contribution to the history of German-Jewish exile literature. From 1978 to 1984 he held a leading position in the Munich cultural department; The most important initiatives were Spielmotor e. V., first model of a public-private partnership between the city of Munich and BMW AG, appointment of Sergiu Celibidache as GMD of the Munich Philharmonic, invention of the Munich piano summer , concept for the event series "Speeches about one's own country: Germany" and the preparation for Foundation of the Munich Film Festival. He then set up the EZO Art Directorate for international cultural exchange and was chief curator of the “Culture Concepts Sprengel” (Munich, Berlin, New York). In 1988 and 1989 he was artistic director of the Wiener Festwochen and in 1993 was appointed artistic director of Richard Meier's newly built Ulmer Stadthaus . He was a co-founder of the Bartuz Foundation / “Société Imaginäre” (Washington, Buenos Aires and Berlin). Furthermore, he headed the network “Art in Nature” Paris / Vienna, founded the initiative “Fudamenta MM. Arts, Sciences and Technologies for a New Millennium” with UNESCO (Paris / Venice) and the “Curatorial Partners”, a working group of Museum directors, exhibition organizers and art journalists from various countries, whose spokesman he is to this day. From 1999 to 2001 he was the curator of the Federal Garden Show in Potsdam . Since 2013 he has also been the artistic director of the online art space "Curator's Choice". He lives and works in Munich and Traunstein.
