Elsa Afra Julia Maria "Els" Goulmy (born November 27, 1946 in The Hague ) is a Dutch immunologist (transplant biology).

Goulmy started out as a laboratory technician and after training in Nijmegen was in Leiden and Madison, Wisconsin . She received her PhD in 1985 from the University of Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie) (as this was not possible for laboratory technicians in the Netherlands at the time). From 1999 until her retirement in 2011 she was a professor at the University of Leiden .

In 1990 she was at Stanford University .

In 2002 she received the Spinoza Prize for fundamental work to highlight the importance of non- HLA (MHC) antigens (minor histocompatibility antigens) in transplantation . Before their investigations it was assumed that they play no role in transplants (in contrast to the HLA complex). They were discovered in mice in the 1970s and their role in humans was revealed by Goulmy. She is internationally recognized as a leading expert in this field.

In 2001 she received the Van Loghem Prize from the Dutch Society for Immunology.
