Elsie Gunborg Johansson (born May 1, 1931 in Vendels socken , Sweden ) is a Swedish writer .

Life

Elsie Johansson was born the fifth child of a farm, construction and forest worker. She lived with her family in a sparse forest hut, which would later become the scene of her story again and again. After graduating from high school in Uppsala in 1948 , she started working for the Swedish Post. She married at 18 and had their first child at 19. After working there for 30 years, she made her debut as a writer in 1979 with the poetry book Brorsan hade en vevgrammofon . She made her debut novel in 1984 with Kvinnan som mötte en hund .

She celebrated her big break in 2001 with Nancy , the story about working-class girls of the same name. For this book she was awarded the Aniarapriset , the Stig Dagermanpriset , the Siripriset and the Hedenvind plaque , among others . After a translation by Katrin Frey , the book was finally published in 2004 by Piper Verlag under the German title Das Leben ein Fest .

One of Johansson's books has been made into a film so far. Her children's book Kattbreven , published in 1991, was made into a film under the direction of Christina Olofson in 2001 and was shown for the first time in German on December 15, 2001 with the title Katzenjammer on the children's channel .
