Anna-Maria Christina Olofson (born June 13, 1948 in Kristinehamn , Värmlands län , Sweden ) is a Swedish director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

After studying sociology , education and law , she began training in film editing in 1970. She then worked for several years for Swedish television and edited reports and documentaries. In the mid-1970s she founded the production company Hagafilm with the Swedish cameraman and director Göran du Rées. Her first successful film was Målaren, which attended the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes and the Moscow Film Festival . Then in 1987 one of the greatest successes of her career followed with Dirigenterna . The documentary about 6 conductors not only received a lot of critical praise, but was also distributed worldwide. With Co.Film, Olofson founded her own production company in 1990 and produced his first own film with Honungsvargar .

She has collaborated on four films with the Swedish writer Annika Thor . Thor was not only involved in the script work for Honungsvargar in 1990 , but was also responsible for the script for I could have said no , Hannah med H and Katzenjammer . Robert Nordström also worked as cameraman for the last three .

Political commitment

Olofson is known in Sweden for her feminist commitment to gender equality in the Swedish film business . When Women in Film and Television (WIFT) opened a Swedish branch in 2003 , it joined it immediately. She is currently a board member of this feminist lobby organization . For years she has been fighting at various events to ensure that the participation of women among directors, screenwriters and producers should increase. She calls on politicians as well as the Swedish Film Academy and Swedish TV broadcasters to repeatedly introduce a corresponding quota for women . For example, a joint declaration on equality in film was drawn up at the film convention in Luleå in 2008 to demand a quota. When this was not introduced, however, Olofson appeared several times on television, repeatedly denouncing the failings of gender equality policy in Swedish film. In order to support these demands, she stated that she would also like to direct action films from time to time, but could not do so, since only men could ever be considered to direct them. In all of those interviews she kept quiet about the fact that she has her own production company. In 2010 there were meetings with SVT , TV4 and some trade unions to discuss for equality for women in Swedish film. One of the reasons given was that only 2 of the 20 biggest crowd pullers in the last 10 years were directed by women. These were Masjävlar and Eva and Adam - four birthdays and a fiasco . When the well-known Swedish director Kjell Sundvall said that he and Colin Nutley could n't help the remaining women making films that were less attractive to the audience, he was exposed to strong media criticism.

Parallel to her lobbying work, Olofson repeatedly addresses the chronic underfunding of the film and confirms conditions such as burnout , low wages , long working hours and a lack of respect for the occupational safety and health law .
