Colin Nutley (born February 28, 1944 in Gosport near Southampton , England) is a British film director who works in Sweden .

Life

After five years of training at Portsmouth Art College, Colin Nutley first worked as a graphic designer for a regional television station in England in the 1960s . He then worked as a freelance director for documentaries, music programs , series and films for the TV channels ITV , BBC and Channel 4 . The work as assistant director for the series Deckare UPA brought Nutley to Sweden for the first time.

Nutley directed his first feature film, Nionde kompaniet , in 1987 , which is about a group of young men who come up with a brilliant business idea when they enter military service. In 1990 the film Black Jack followed , which, among other things, is about the dance music band of the same name in a small Swedish town.

In 1992 the film Änglagård (German film title Fanny's Farm ) premiered. The film is one of the most watched Swedish films and has won the Swedish Guldbagge Award twice, for best film and for best director. The follow-up film Änglagård - andra sommaren was released in cinemas at Christmas 1994 and, like its predecessor, became a crowd puller. In Sweden he had a million moviegoers. The third Änglagård film ( Änglagård - Tredje gången gillt ), in which Colin Nutley and Helena Bergström's daughter Molly Nutley also plays a leading role, was released in Swedish cinemas at the end of 2010.

In 1998, Nutley's film Luck Is Coming premiered. The film was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Foreign Language Film . Nutley's films Sprängaren (2001) and Paradiset (2003) are both based on the novels of the same name by Liza Marklund .

Nutley is married to actress Helena Bergström , who often appears in his films. They both have two children, and Nutley has another son from a previous relationship.
