The magpie is a common figure in heraldry and a heraldic animal with some features that can be represented quite safely in the coat of arms . The tail is shown to be quite long and usually erect. The side of the bird is colored in white from the rest of the black body, as it corresponds to reality. The main direction of view is to the heraldic right . In Germany , the Elster becomes a talking coat of arms for some coats of arms . Examples are Elsterwerda , Bad Elster , Elsterberg and Elstra . The bird can also be seen in the coat of arms of Aglasterhausen .
