List of honorary citizens of Herzogenaurach
The honorary citizenship is the highest municipal award of the city of Herzogenaurach . It has been awarded since the introduction of the municipal code in Bavaria in 1869. The appointment as an honorary citizen presupposes services to the city which are to be appreciated more than those for which the golden city medal is awarded. The city council decides on the appointment as honorary citizen with a simple majority. Until 1997 the number of living honorary citizens was limited to six.
So far, 28 people have been made honorary citizens. The honorary citizenship granted to the Reich Gauleiter Konrad Henlein during the time of National Socialism was revoked on June 22, 1946.
The communities of Niederndorf and Zweifelsheim also granted honorary citizenships until they were incorporated into Herzogenaurach.
Note: The listing is done chronologically according to the date of award.
