Elton Rasmussen (born July 26, 1936 - December 28, 1978 ) was an Australian rugby league player. He played for the St. George Dragons during the 1960s and won the championship five times in a row with them from 1962 to 1966. With Australia he won the World Cup in 1968 .

Career

Rasmussen began his career with a club in Toowoomba before making his first game for Queensland in 1959 . He then completed a tour to Europe with the Australian national team, including three international matches against France .

In 1962 he moved from Queensland to New South Wales and joined the St. George Dragons in the NSWRL . He initially played as a pillar before moving to the position of second-row striker. Between 1962 and 1966 he won five consecutive Grand Finals with St. George, these were part of a winning streak that had started in 1956 and was only to end after the 1966 season. In 1967 he toured Europe again with Australia and was used in six international matches. His last national team game was a group stage win against New Zealand at the 1968 World Cup .

In 1969 he was the player- coach for the Souths Logan Magpies in the Brisbane Rugby League (BRL) and completed a game for Queensland in his last year as an active player.

On December 28, 1978 Elton Rasmussen died of a heart attack at the age of 41 .
