Elvenes (also Elvnes ) is a place in the municipality of Sør-Varanger in Troms og Finnmark , the northernmost province of Norway .

geography

Elvenes is about 10 km south of Kirkenes at the mouth of the Pasvikelva . The village has about 300 inhabitants. The place is connected to the Norwegian road network via the European route 105 Trifontunnelen . The Norwegian-Russian border is about 1.5 km from Elvenes.

From 1941 until the end of the Second World War , Stalag 322 was located in Elvenes, to which , among other things, around 600 teachers from all over Norway were brought in 1942. They refused to take part in the Nazification of the lessons.
