Emanuela Frank
Emanuela Frank ( December 24, 1870 in Wottitz - October 20, 1940 in Munich ) was a German opera singer (mezzo-soprano).
Life
Frank, daughter of an Austrian civil servant, attended the Prague Conservatory, where she was trained under Professor Franz Vogel. She began her theatrical career in 1888 in Düsseldorf. From there she came to the court theater in Kassel 1889-1891, from where she followed a call to the court theater in Munich. The artist worked here with great success, was also awarded the title of Royal Bavarian Chamber Singer, but left this engagement in 1900 because she wanted to turn her previous subject of mezzo-soprano entirely to the highly dramatic subject. Unfortunately, in her new sphere of activity in Leipzig, the impossibility of this beginning turned out, and the artist also left this stage after one year of activity, without temporarily accepting another permanent engagement. She had set up her permanent residence in Munich.
Frank possessed important vocal means, a seldom powerful organ, which especially in the depth shows an extremely beautiful timbre. In addition, there was her lively perception, her expressive playing and an impressive stage appearance. All these noteworthy qualities made this talented singer a remarkable representative of her subject. Her best roles were named: "Ortrud", "Fides", "Amneris", "Orpheus", "Adriano", "Azucena" etc.
