history

Surveying work and planning began in the 1950s under the Franco dictatorship. However, the structure was not completed until 1974 towards the end of the Franco era. The planners of the project knew that the small town of Mediano would disappear in the floods - only the top of its simple church tower from the 16th century remained visible. Every year in August and September the water level of the lake sinks to low values, which means that the church itself and some of the ruins of the village are visible again. The place was to be rebuilt on the shores of the lake, but most of the former residents preferred to move to other places or to the cities.

business

The operator of the dam is the Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro (CHE) . Several turbines for generating electricity are built into the 92 meter high dam; There is a substation south of the dam . No data is available on the amounts of energy generated.
