The Emder Ruderverein e. V. was founded in Emden in 1906 to promote the sport of rowing . In addition to hiking and racing rowing , the club has also been active in volleyball since 1972 and in dragon boat sports since 2008 . The club is a member of the German Rowing Association (DRV).

history

The club was founded under the name Emder Rowing Club in 1906 as the first rowing club in the city.

Five years later, employees of the Post and Telegraph Office founded another rowing club in Emden under the name Ruderverein Ostfriesland . In the same year the school rowing club “Wiking” was added . However, due to the First World War, this only lasted a few years. Up to this point it was a question of pure men's clubs. In 1913 the Emden ladies rowing club was founded.

Due to the poor economic situation , the Emden rowing club from 1906 and the rowing club Ostfriesland merged in 1923 to form the Emden rowing club .

In 1977 the Emder Rowing Club and the Emden Ladies Rowing Club merged to form what is now the Emden Rowing Club.

Sporting successes

The club can show sporting successes in almost all boat classes. The club has won over 1,500 victories from one to eight in regattas of the German Rowing Association. Furthermore, several German championship titles and participation in the Olympic Games by Thomas Hitzbleck can be counted.
