Emendation (taxonomy)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As an emendation , or emend for short. or em. for emendavit , in biological taxonomy one describes the correction of the size of a taxon . If the taxon is reduced in size, the type must still belong to the taxon. The new author can add em in the author's quote to the old one. to be added. In the species Alchemilla vulgaris L. em. Fröhner the original description by Carl von Linné , but the emendation by Sigurd Fröhner . This addition to the author's quotation is rarely cited today, at least in botany.

In bacteriology , the emendation is standard and by rule 35 of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria (ICNB, International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria , Bacteriological code above): If the description of a taxon was later improved by one or more authors or corrected , these names appear after the abbreviation "emend." with the year of the description. An example of this is Micrococcus Cohn 1872 emend. Wieser et al. 2002.
