Emerald Edge is a German progressive metal band from the Düsseldorf area .

history

Emerald Edge was founded in 2002 by Volker Faas and Martin Wendler. In 2003 drummer Andreas Christ joined them, three months later singer Tanja Maul. In summer 2004 the band recorded their first demo with the songs Under Control , Terrify , A Crack in the Mirror , Mysterious Seasons , Shade of the Dragon and The Mirror Speaks on which on 31 October 2004 during an appearance on Halloween was published . At the end of 2005 they finally found the long-sought keyboardist in Alessio Nocita.

In March 2006 Tanja Maul left the band after 2 years due to musical differences. A new singer was only found in 2007 in Alice Aschauer.

In June 2008, the recordings for the second album By the Light of the Dark Star began . The five musicians were supported by Markus Frehn (C-Fiction). A total of six tracks were recorded, with Menace from the Inner Core being almost 30 minutes long. The recording sessions lasted until summer 2009. At the beginning of the mixing sessions in September 2009, after six years, Andreas Christ and Emerald Edge parted ways.

Three months later Artur Wlossek took over the chair behind the drums. Through him new influences came into the band and they began to write a new song Lost (Chapter II) and work on the old material. In October 2010 Artur made his live debut as a drummer in the Düsseldorf AK47. Here the musicians also present other new material.

There the decision was made to continue working on new material and postpone the release of By the Light of the Dark Star , as the response to the new pieces was consistently positive. A year later, the maxi CD The Ladder of Some Dream was ready with a total of three tracks.

It wasn't until 2013 that the band found their way back onto the stage with a setlist of two and a half hours. Songs from ten years of band history were presented at a total of ten concerts. In August 2013, By the Light of the Dark Star was finally released . The CD is only available at concerts and in the shop.

In August 2014, the band went back to the studio to record eight new songs in their own production. The recordings were delayed, however, because Alessio Nocita left the band at the end of 2014 for professional reasons. The recordings were put on hold until a new keyboardist was found. Four of the band returned to the stage and played a few concerts before Robert Köhler (formerly Inquire ) took up the job as the new keyboardist in autumn 2015 .

In summer 2016 the recordings could finally be continued. The remaining vocal tracks and the keyboards were recorded and the album was then mixed. The album Surreal was released in March 2017.
