Emerging Island ( English for appearing island ) is a 3 km long and ice-covered island off the Borchgrevink coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It is located about 2.5 km east of Index Point in the northern part of Lady Newnes Bay . The island rises only slightly above the level of the ice in the mouth of the Mariner Glacier .
In 1966, the New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee gave it its descriptive name .
