history

As part of the abundant founding of women's monasteries in the 13th century, there were attempts from 1232 to add the Cistercian monastery De Consilio Beatae Mariae (Moeder van Goede Raad) to the Oudenaarde Hospital of the Saint Bernard Sisters, but they failed. The monastery had to move to Ath, where it took the name Le Refuge Notre-Dame ("Maria Refuge"). It was originally in the suburb of Brantignies on the Dender . In the 16th century the community had to move to the city center, although it returned, it was driven into the city center a second time in the 17th century by a fortification project. It was dissolved there in 1796. Today the station stands on the site of this monastery.
