Emil Messner

Emil Messner (born September 11, 1875 in Winterthur ; † May 29, 1942 in Geneva ) was a Swiss balloon pioneer. In 1900 he graduated from the first airship recruit school in Bern as a lieutenant, and in 1905 he obtained his balloon driver certification. From 1909 he was in command of the balloon company of the Swiss Army, and from 1918 to 1923 of the airship department. In 1901 he was a co-founder of the Aero Club in Switzerland . In 1908 he won the Gordon Bennett Cup . From 1911 to 1932 he was head of “Switzerland. Metallwerke Selve & Co. » in Thun .
