Emile André Kiener (born April 21, 1859 in Colmar ; † August 26, 1928 there ) was an industrialist and member of the state parliament.

family

Emile André Kiener was the son of the company André Emile Kiener (born March 2, 1829 in Lille; † April 24, 1872 in Colmar) and his wife Caroline Barbe Kiener (born May 20, 1833 in Colmar; † August 23, 1910 ibid) .

Emile André Kiener, who was a Protestant denomination, married Lucie, born in Mulhouse, on March 15, 1882, from Stetten (born September 6, 1858 in Mulhouse; † December 23, 1941 in Colmar). The marriage resulted in 5 children:

  • Marguerite Jeanne Kiener (born March 10, 1883 in Colmar, † April 15, 1957 in Mulhouse), married to André Scheurer
  • Paul André Kiener (born October 4, 1884 in Colmar; † June 28, 1969 there)
  • Lucie Kiener (born July 31, 1886 in Colmar; † April 16, 1900 there)
  • Blanche Gabrielle Kiener (born March 20, 1889 in Colmar, † April 26, 1975 in Grasse) married to Robert Redslob
  • Jean Jacques Kiener (born March 21, 1892 in Colmar; † August 28, 1964 there)

Life

Emile André Kiener attended the secondary school in Mulhouse and the spinning and weaving school in Mulhouse. In 1880, at the age of 21, he took over the family business (the father had died when he was only 13 years old)

His company A. Kiener & Cie. (Wool spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing) was founded in 1830 by his grandfather. André Kiener led the company to blossom. In 1928 his factory had nearly 3,000 employees. After his death, his sons Paul André and Jean Jacques continued to run the company. André Kiener introduced a range of social benefits such as company apartments for employees in his company.

He has served on a wide variety of boards and professional organizations.

politics

Member of the Colmar Municipal Council from 1896 to 1908 and an alderman from 1902 to 1908. He was President of the Colmar Chamber of Commerce from 1905 to 1928 . In 1911 he was elected to the first chamber of the Landtag of the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine , to which he belonged until 1918. In the state parliament he was a member of the presidium.

Honors

André Kiener has received many awards. He was appointed to the Commerce Council and Knight of the Legion of Honor . Rue André Kiener in Colmar is named after him.
