Emile Andrieux (* 1795 in Rouen ; † December 16, 1862 in Montigny ) was a French ophthalmologist.

Live and act

After defending his dissertation in Paris in 1820 , he first practiced in Rouen and then went to Paris, where he was able to apply his physical knowledge to investigate the use of electricity in the treatment of diseases. He also worked in the field of ophthalmology. He invented a device that he called "Ophthalmophantôme", and which he presented in 1836 to the Académie royale de médecine . It consisted of a holder into which pig eyes or artificial eyes were inserted so that students and doctors could learn eye operations, especially cataract operations , on the phantom. In 1840 he became chief physician at the Paris Hôpital des Quinze-Vingts , an eye clinic.
