from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Emilie Siegenthaler (born September 19, 1986 in Biel ) is a Swiss downhill biker. She is six-time Swiss champion (2008-2014) and made it into the top five several times in World Cup races between 2011 and 2014.

Life and career

Emilie Siegenthaler first got on a bike when she was three or four years old. She took part in a race for the first time when she was around ten years old. She was sponsored by her father, Nicolas Siegenthaler, who was team manager at Scott Switzerland at the time. She started her career as a cross-country athlete and was the companion of Nino Schurter from the same year. The two were on the same team and had the same coach. Siegenthaler achieved the title of Swiss Champion, European Champion and World Cup winner as a cross-country driver. However, the strain on her body was too great. In 2004 she developed Pfeiffer's glandular fever for the second time in a row . She needed rest. Because she could train less endurance, she switched to downhill.

Siegenthaler rides for the Pivot Cycles team. She completed her studies with a master's degree in psychology and is continuing her education as a sports psychologist .

As a self-confessed lesbian, Siegenthaler is committed to the “Stop Homophobia in Sport” campaign.
