The then chairman of the Wels section of the Austrian Alpine Club and eponymous patron Emil Pühringer never visited the building site of the hut during the construction period. When he climbed there for the first time in 1927 on the occasion of the inauguration of the Pühringerhütte and saw the completed hut for the first time from the top, he is said to have burst into tears of joy.

A metal plaque on the side of the path with the inscription "Emil's tear hill" still reminds of this incident.
