Emily Whelan (born August 22, 2002 in Dublin ) is an Irish soccer player and former Gaelic football player.

Whelan started her career at the Shelbourne MGL Academy and was promoted to the first team for Shelbourne Ladies FC in August 2018 . On November 10, 2018, the 16-year-old was named the best player in the U-17 league and thus the first Continental Tires Women's National League U-17 player of the year at the Ballsbridge Hotel in Ballsbridge , Dublin .

National team

After playing five games for the Irish U-17 team, Whelan was named to Ireland's senior team against the Polish women's national football team at the age of 16 on September 28, 2018 . On October 9, 2018, after being substituted on, she made her A international debut for Ruesha Littlejohn in the 86th minute at the age of 16. On January 20, 2019 she came to her second international match, after a substitution in the 76th minute for Emily Kraft , in a 0-1 defeat at the Podoactiva Pinatar Arena Football Center in San Pedro del Pinatar , Murcia .

Gaelic football career

In her youth until 2017 she starred alongside the football active Gaelic Football in the Gaelic Athletic Association , the O'Dwyers GAA , the Dublin Ladies GFA and stood in the U-16 selection of Dublin .

Whelan attended Ardgillan Community College in Balbriggan .
