The Emma-Jaeger-Bad is a former swimming pool in Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg . It is divided into a new hall and the so-called Alte Emma-Jaeger-Bad. In particular, the listed historic bath, which now houses a creative center, is of architectural value as an Art Nouveau building .

history

Construction of today's old baths began in 1909. The building was financed primarily from the funds of Pforzheim's patron Emma Jaeger (1830–1900), who left the city with a sum of around 500,000 gold marks to build a public bath. Up to this point there had been no public baths in Pforzheim. In 1911 the swimming pool was opened in an architectural mix of neo-renaissance and art nouveau . In February 1945, the bath was badly damaged by bombs, so that it had to be rebuilt in a smaller form after the end of the Second World War . In 1949 the bath could be put back into operation. Today the building belongs to one of the few Art Nouveau buildings in the city that has been preserved at least in part , along with the Kollmar & Jourdan House and the funeral hall of the main cemetery . In the sixties it was decided to build a new hall, which was inaugurated in 1965. The new pool received a non-swimmer pool, a sports pool with diving board and a water slide. This new hall was renovated in 2002 and a sauna area was added. In 2011, the swimming pool in the old hall had to be abandoned for structural reasons; the building now houses a creative center. The new hall of the Emma-Jaeger-Bad was also closed at the end of 2018 for financial reasons.
