The Empire State Index is one of the most important leading economic indicators for economic development in the United States and is published by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

The Empire State Index measures manufacturing activity in New York State . It is calculated using the results of surveys among companies on the development of incoming orders, sales figures, inventories, prices, employee numbers and financial liabilities. While a negative index value indicates a future economic downturn, positive index values ​​represent assumed positive economic developments.
