Empordanesa is an old Catalan chicken -Landrasse that around 1920 in the region Empordà was discovered. The breed was then further bred by the Barcelona School of Agriculture . In 1999 the breed was also approved in Germany.

The rooster weighs about 2.4 to 3 kg, the hen is a bit lighter and weighs 1.7 to 2.3 kg. The minimum weight for brood eggs of the breed is 60 g. The eggs are very dark red-brown in color, sometimes with a bluish tinge. The hen lays around 190 eggs per year, which corresponds to a good laying performance.

The chicken moves in a proud, upright posture and has a beautiful comb .
